I feel bad leaving this review. I am very sad to say this place has gone majorly downhill. It used to be my favorite spot, but lately they just seem burned out or something. I had the worst massage this weekend, and the massage quality has been hit or miss for a while. I never know if I'm going to get someone whose default pressure really hurts and who doesn't understand me when I say I want slow and gentle, or someone working at a jackhammer pace that stresses me out. This time, my massage therapist was on her phone the entire time. I'm not indignant about that in principle, I'm not complaining about "these kids and their phones" (I'm not that old, lol) - but it actually had a negative impact on the quality of the massage. She was often doing the massage one handed and would slow down or pause every few seconds because she was clearly texting and distracted. Her phone buzzed next to my head several times. Then when she got to the foot part, she had a conversation on bluetooth the entire time, just chatting it up. I'd be totally 100% fine with her watching videos or listening to a podcast. I'm sure rubbing a strangers feet for an hour is boring. We're allowed to listen to stuff on our earbuds at my office, and an audiobook or podcast makes it easier for me to focus on boring tasks for long periods of time. So I get it and that would have been fine, but texting or talking requires split attention and causes distraction. They're cutting corners budget-wise too. The music they're using cuts off each song too early so it's a jarring, abrupt transition between songs, not at all relaxing. Coupled with her conversation and mediocre massage, I just wanted to leave, but asking her to stop, getting up, and trying to negotiate a partial bill for incomplete/inadequate service felt like it would be so much drama. When she was done she dried my feet off with a scratchy paper towel. Nobody has ever done that before at any other place I've ever gone. She did bring out a hot towel after, so I was so confused; like did she not want to get lotion on the towel? Then she didn't dry my feet off properly after the hot towel and my feet itched as I walked to my car. I was so upset. You're supposed to feel better after a massage but I was fuming. I had wanted to tell her to stop and I'd just leave the entire time, but I couldn't bring myself to be that confrontational. I'm done though, I will not be back. They have gone out of their way to make me it clear they completely take their customers for granted. I tried to explain how I wanted my massage and she claimed she remembered because I've been such a long time customer, but then she didn't actually do it the way I'd asked. I have anxiety and wanted to relax, so I wanted medium pressure but super slow, calm movements. She got the pressure right but her movements were at a slightly harried pace - like she was trying to get it over with quickly, despite it being set on a timer. I wanted a pace that felt like she was relaxed and taking her time, so I could relax. That faster pace stresses me out and she claimed she understood because I'm a regular. I can't tell you how many times lately I've come in and watched them actively consider and decide if they were going to tell me they were too busy despite being completely ghost-town dead and overstaffed. You're either booked or your not, thinking about it like that implies you're deciding if you feel like it, so if you say no it means you don't want to, not that you're actually too busy. I don't get it. I'm shy and polite and always tip at least $10, or round it up pretty generously like $70 on a $55 service or $60 on a $45 service. My bare minimum tip is 22% on the $45 foot massage and 18% on the body massage, and I usually round up so that's 27%. I can't possibly be such a bad enough tipper that they'd rather I not come in, right? Yet that pause to think about it before saying they're too busy makes me feel so unwelcome.
